AIA Paw Safe Pet Insurance: What Is It And Do You Need It?

Update: As of May 2023, AIA Paw Safe pet insurance is no longer available.

AIA Paw Safe pet insurance serves a different purpose to the other available pet insurance plans in Singapore. It is more of an accident plan for your dog.

AIA Paw Safe coverage

AIA Paw Safe pet insurance covers vet expenses due to an accident, offers third-party liability compensation, and pays you when your dog is stolen or passes away due to an accident.

Two simple accident plans are offered by AIA.
Premiums differ by Microchipped pet vs not microchipped pet

Unlike the other plans in the market, it doesn’t cover vet expenses due to medical conditions that don’t arise from an accident.

That is why the premiums are very low – $79.49 for microchipped dogs and $84.58 otherwise.

What do the benefits mean for you?

Accidental death

If your dog passes away due to an accident, AIA Paw Safe will pay up to $1,000 or the purchase price, whichever is lower. Note that death from medical illness is not covered.

Vet fees due to an accident

Accidents involving dogs fighting or choking on chews are quite common. Should an accident happen to your dog, you can reimburse up to $1,000 of your vet expenses incurred within 30 days of an accident. There’s a deductible of $150 per claim.

Cremation or burial expenses due to death by accident

Should your pet pass away due to an accident, you can get reimbursed up to $250 for your pet’s cremation or burial expenses within 90 days of the accident.

Loss of your dog due to theft

If your dog is stolen from the home address and is not found within 28 days of the police report, AIA Paw Safe will pay you $1,000 or the purchase price (whichever is lower).

There’s a deductible of $250, which means that if your dog costs $900, the insurer will only pay you $650. However, if your dog cost $10,000, the insurer will pay you the full $1,000 since the purchase price less the deductible is $9,750.

Third Party Liability

With up to $1 million covered, AIA Paw Safe provides the highest third party liability coverage among all the pet insurance plans in Singapore. There’s a deductible of $1,000 per claim.

Should you get AIA Paw Safe Pet Insurance?

What AIA Paw Safe offers overlaps greatly with CIMB’s My Paw Pal. The areas of coverage would be identical if My Paw Pal’s coverage for theft is added. Read about our comparison between these two pet insurance plans here.

You should choose AIA Paw Safe if:

  • accident coverage is your priority and
  • you do not want to spend more than $100 on pet insurance, and
  • being adequately covered for third party liability is very important to you

If coverage on vet expenses is your priority, then you can narrow your consideration to Liberty PetCare and Happy Tails Pet Insurance. For a detailed comparison between the two, click here.
